The Teacher Flight Program Exhibit is complete thanks to our wonderful curator, Matthew Burchette.  Please come by Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum to check it out! The exhibit is located between the Education Classroom and large globe on the south side of the museum.  We have a short, five minute movie starring Eileen Collins, the Teacher Flight Program Honorary Chair.   Future plans are for an interactive monitor to look up your school or name and have it show up on a map with your picture!

Each teacher that attended had the opportunity to get their picture taken with Eileen Collins, the Honorary Chair for the Teacher Flight Program.  Col. Collins was the first female Space Shuttle Commander and Pilot and graciously thanked each teacher in attendance.  Also in attendance were Lt. Governor Joe Garcia, Deputy Commissioner of Education Keith Owen, and former Aurora Public Schools Superintendent John Barry.

Before Eileen Collins became the first woman astronaut to command a space shuttle, she was an Air Force pilot teaching math at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.

"They wanted me to bring my flying experiences into the classroom," she said. "Students would say, 'Why do I need to know this? What will I ever use it for?'

As honorary chairwoman of the new Spreading Wings Teacher Flight Program at Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum, Collins preaches the gospel of better teaching through flying.
